The Houston Astros fell last night at the hands of the Oakland Athletics on Monday by a final score of 8-2.  Oakland starter Jeff Samardzija held the Astros to two runs and six hits and struck out 10 batters in eight innings to improve to 2-0 with a 2.78 ERA in three starts against the Astros since coming to the A's in July.  Houston had a spark of life in the the bottom of the eighth as Chris Carter blasted a home run to bring Houston within one, but that was as close as they could get.

The ninth inning turned out to be nothing short of a disaster for the Astros, who watched the A's score five runs, four of them against relief pitcher Tony Sipp, who walked the first four batters he faced.  "If we could have kept the game right there, an opportunity to come back up in the ninth inning with a one-run deficit is totally different than coming up down by six," Porter said.  "The whole object was trying to keep the game right there."

Astros starter Scott Feldman (7-10) delivered his fifth quality start in his past six outings by holding the A's to three runs and seven hits in seven innings in a losing effort.  His 15 quality starts this season rank second on the club behind starter Dallas Keuchel.
