Football fans, mark your calendars. The official start date for the 2012 NFL season has been announced, and it's a somewhat unusual date at that.

The NFL will kick off it's 2012 season on Wednesday, September 5th, instead of its usual start on the first Thursday of the month. Defending Super Bowl champions the New York Giants will host the game.

The NFL decided to move the game so that it would not conflict with President Obama's nomination speech, which will be broadcast the following night, Thursday, September 6th. This will be the third time in the last five years that the NFL opener had to be rescheduled due to political broadcasts, and the second time that it's been rescheduled under Obama.

For Obama's sake, it's probably a good thing that the game was rescheduled. There is no way he'd be able to compete against the NFL for viewers. Unfortunately for the rest of America, that also means there won't be anything worth watching on TV that Thursday.
