Series MVP LeBron James had 27 points, 11 assists and 11 rebounds, and the Cavaliers shocked the Golden State Warriors, 93-89, in Game 7 of the 2016 NBA Finals in Oakland on Sunday night, bringing a major sports championship to Cleveland for the first time in more than 50 years.

Cavs’ guard Kyrie Irving scored 26 points, including the game-winning 3-pointer over Stephen Curry with 53 seconds left. The incredible victory in the decisive game allowed Cleveland to become the first team to rally from a 3-1 NBA Finals deficit by beating the defending champion Warriors. The NBA title was the first-ever for the franchise, and the first for the city since the Browns won the NFL championship in 1964.

The game was tightly played throughout with the Cavaliers rallying from a 49-42 halftime deficit to get the victory. One of the key moments of the contest was James’ block of an Andre Iguodala layup attempt with the game tied, 89-89, with 1:50 to play. The stellar defensive play paved the way for Irving’s decisive shot a minute later.

Draymond Green had 32 points, 15 rebounds and nine assists for Golden State. Two-time reigning league MVP Curry scored 17 points, but he was only 4-for-14 from the three-point arc for the game.

The loss left the Warriors without a championship despite a league-record 73 regular-season wins this season.
