First dates can be many things: fun, exciting, boring, uncomfortable, expensive, sexy. You can't fake chemistry, but there are some things about a first date that you can control -- like the best places to go.

We came up with the top five locations to go on a first date in Lubbock based on location, atmosphere and first date friendliness.

    The Roof

    Phone: (806) 368-1521

Located on the 11th floor of the parking garage across from Jones Stadium and Marsha Sharp Freeway. The drinks are good and moderately priced, but the real reason to go is the amazing view of Lubbock and the surrounding West Texas sky.

The 4th of July, eclipses and Christmas are particular faves for fireworks, natural wonders and Christmas lights, all which can be seen from the panoramic rooftop bar.

    Buffalo Springs Lake

If you and your first date both like the great outdoors, then what better way to get to know each other than spending the evening at one of West Texas's premiere attractions.

Kick back by the lake, spend a little time at the Marina at the sun goes down, listen to live music and grab some food and a couple beverages.

    Las Brisas Steakhouse

    4701 112th St. Phone: (806) 687-6050

For a great meal with beautiful atmosphere, try Las Brisas. My husband and I went on our first date in Lubbock there and it was perfect. We shared the porterhouse steak, knocked back a couple Patron silvers and enjoyed the patio area by the waterfall and live music. Reservations are recommended.

    Texas Tech Sporting Events

Football, baseball, basketball, tennis or soccer, Texas Tech sporting events are a blast. If you both like sports and one (or both of you) went to Texas Tech, then this is a perfect first date.

Cactus Alley @ 2610 Salem Ave.
For coffee lovers and non-drinkers, this is an intimate setting with eclectic style, live music and killer coffees, along with snacks and other non-alcoholic beverages.
Comfy seating, a second-story outdoor balcony and more make for a perfect first date spot.
