*UPDATE: As of 9:30 p.m. Wednesday night, service appears to have been fixed for AT&T customers calling 911. It's still a good idea to save the number below in case of future emergencies.*

Original story:

AT&T wireless customers throughout Dallas-Ft. Worth, Central Texas and now in Lubbock reported issues with the 911 service Wednesday evening (March 8).

Tiffany Pelt, Public Information Officer for the Lubbock Police Department, said in a statement that LPD is attempting to get more information.

Those in Lubbock who are having difficulties reaching 911 should instead call 806-775-2865 for emergencies.

The Dallas Morning News reported that AT&T is working on the issue:

"We are aware of a service issue affecting some calls to 911 for wireless customers and we're working to resolve it as quickly as possible," an AT&T spokesman said in a statement. "We apologize for this inconvenience."

AT&T has not said how widespread the issue may be, however, there have been reports that the statewide outage may be nationwide.

Officials from Central Texas to the Brazos Valley have been posting alternative phone numbers for emergency services in response to the outage.

Again, only AT&T wireless users seem to be having problems as of 8:30 p.m. Wednesday.

Texas Governor Greg Abbott tweeted out that residents having an issue in any city should contact their local law enforcement or emergency management offices directly if they're unable to reach someone via 911.
