Maryland Joins Big Ten and Other College Football Notes

Maryland announced Monday that it was accepting an invitation to join the Big Ten conference. Rutgers is expected to make a similar announcement on Tuesday. So, for those keeping track at home, the Big Ten will have 14 teams, the Big 12 has 10, and San Diego State will be in the Big East. Got it?

We’re down to the home stretch of the regular season, with most teams having just two games remaining. There aren't many big games this week, with only two top 25 matchups and five ranked SEC schools dropping down to play FCS teams. BCS Settles on Six Games, Gives Automatic Bid to Non-BCS Conferences

Champions from non-automatic-qualifier conferences will now have the chance to earn a spot in one of six BCS bowl games, according to a new agreement announced Monday. Under the terms of the deal, the highest-ranked champion from the "Group of Five" non-automatic conferences (Big East, Conference USA, MAC, Mountain West and Sun Belt) will be guaranteed a spot in a BCS bowl game.
