Baseball America Ranks Jake Barrios #8 Prospect in Jayhawk League

Mike Dalby,

Incoming Texas Tech junior infielder Jake Barrios has been ranked as the 8th best prospect in the Jayhawk League by Baseball America. Barrios is joining the Red Raiders after helping lead the Liberal Bee Jays to a ninth-place finish in the National Baseball Congress World Series earlier this month.

Barrios, 6-foot-3, 220, played two-years at Seward County Community College in Kansas where he batted .393 this summer with two doubles, four triples, two homers and 13 RBI.

Baseball America is currently ranking the “Top 10 Prospects” from summer collegiate leagues across the country. Barrios was No. 8 among all Jayhawk League players but also was ranked the No. 2 prospect among the league’s shortstops.

Barrios earned first team Jayhawk West All-Conference and NJCAA All-Region VI in 2011 as a freshman, while also being named the league’s freshman of the year after batting .359 with 13 doubles, four triples, eight home runs and 58 RBI.

The infielder started the 2011-12 academic year at LSU, but returned to Seward County following the fall semester. He completed his junior-college career batting .354 (70-for-198) with 45 runs, 14 doubles, two triples and 49 RBI in 2012.

Barrios is the 11th player from Seward County to transfer to Texas Tech since 1993.
