Lawrence Timmons’ interception in overtime set up Shaun Suisham’s game-winning 23-yard field goal, and the Pittsburgh Steelers beat the Kansas City Chiefs, 16-13, at rain-soaked Heinz Field on Monday night. The Steelers won despite losing starting quarterback Ben Roethlisberger to a shoulder injury after he was sacked by Tamba Hali and Justin Houston early in the third quarter.

Kansas City (1-8) tied the game at 13 on Ryan Succop’s 46-yard field goal as time expired in regulation. The Chiefs had the first possession of the extra session, but Timmons picked off Matt Cassel and returned the ball to the 5-yard-line for Pittsburgh (6-3), setting up Suisham’s decisive kick.

After falling behind 10-0 early in the second quarter, Pittsburgh rallied to tie before halftime thanks to a field goal from Suisham and Roethlisberger’s 7-yard touchdown pass to Mike Wallace. The teams stayed even until backup quarterback Byron Leftwich led the Steelers on an 73-yard, 11-play drive that started in the third quarter and culminated with a 31-yard field goal from Suisham with 12:37 to play.

The Chiefs sputtered on three fourth-quarter drives before Cassel marched them into field goal range by completing a 27-yard pass to Dwayne Bowe that set up Succop’s game-tying kick.

Jamaal Charles had 23 carries for 100 yards and a touchdown for Kansas City. The Steelers were held to just 249 yards of total offense.
