Texas Tech Men’s Basketball Head Coach Billy Gillispie has been hospitalized at University Medical Center according to a report from KAMC-TV in Lubbock on Friday.

Gillispie was taken to UMC late last night or early this morning and underwent an ultrasound and is listed in satisfactory condition.

This was reported after a ESPN article which stated that practice conditions were being investigated by the Athletic Department.

Texas Tech Athletics Spokesman Blayne Beal said,

Obviously we take the well being of our student athletes very seriously, that’s our number one priority at Texas Tech, is to make sure that they’re in a great environment.

When a parent drops off their son or daughter on our campus, to compete for one of our teams, that’s our responsibility, that we take their safety, and their well being very seriously.

So, we’re going to continue to look into these matters and just know that the full resources of Texas Tech will be looking into it.”

Gillispie was hired in March 2011 to replace Pat Knight and subsequently went 8-23 this past season and won only a single conference game en route to a 1-17 conference record.

Several players left the program after last season and nine new players are scholarship for the 2012-2013 season.
