Billy Gillispie Not Allowed to Engage with Texas Tech Program at this time

Texas Tech athletic director Kirby Hocutt announced Tuesday that men’s basketball coach Billy Gillispie has been told not to have any contract with the program until the two are able to have the face-to-face meeting that was originally scheduled for Aug. 31.

“At this time, (Gillispie) is not making day-to-day decisions related to our men’s basketball program,” Hocutt said. “Nor is he to engage with our program in any way until he and I have a chance to sit down and talk face to face.”

Hocutt and Gillispie were supposed to meet the morning of Aug. 31 to discuss allegations of player mistreatment and potential NCAA secondary violations stemming from exceeding practice-time limits.

Gillispie called 911 and was taken to the hospital Aug. 31 where he spent six days at University Medical Center being treated for high blood pressure. He left the hospital Sept. 6.

Hocutt would not specify a timetable for meeting with Gillispie, but stated “the sooner the better.”
