Major League Baseball’s owners and general managers are currently meeting in Milwaukee for their Winter Meetings.  The Houston Astros long-awaited sale from Drayton McLane to Jim Crane is on the agenda for Thursday.

Multiple sources across MLB are reporting today that the sale will be approved, with the Astros set to move to the American League West from the National League Central in 2013.

The American League West will then be comprised of the Astros, Texas Rangers, Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim, Oakland A’s and Seattle Mariners.

Mark Berman from FOX 26 in Houston reports that the original sale price of $680 million for the Astros, and their share in Comcast Sports Southwest, will be reduced.

MLB sources told FOX 26 there has been a price adjustment from the original purchase price of $680 million and the sources state the reduction in the sales price is in part due to the move to the American League, and in part due to other factors that were not defined.

The Houston Chronicle states that Jim Crane will get a $70 million discount for the Astros to move to the American League.
Astros owner Drayton McLane will contribute $35 million of the $70 million, the official said, with the remaining $35 million coming from Major League Baseball.
The Astros move to the American League West in 2013 will facilitate the addition of a second wild card playoff team in both leagues and a move back to balanced schedules.
Jim Crane will become the fifth owner in the Astros 50-plus years of existence.
