The best-laid schemes of mice and men, they say, often go array.  Well, if the Yankees’ plan was to pair Jacoby Ellsbury with Robinson Cano in 2014, it hasn’t just gone array, it’s disintegrated.

Robinson Cano signed with the Seattle Mariners today (Dec. 6) to an outrageous 10-year, $240 million deal — the third largest free agent contract in MLB history, besting by $65 million the best deal the Yankees were willing to offer the second baseman.

It’s unclear where the Bombers will go from here, but chances are free agent outfield bats Carlos Beltran and Shin Soo Choo will be targets to replace the loss of their former slugger.  What may be clear, though, is that Jay-Z may actually have some agent chops.
