The Chicago Cubs have agreed to send malcontent pitcher Carlos Zambrano to the Miami Marlins.

The deal, which is pending physicals, requires the Cubs to pay $15 million of the $18 million owed Zambrano in 2012. He has a $19 million vesting option for 2013 if he finishes in the top four for the Cy Young Award.

The Cubs will receive right-handed pitcher Chris Volstad as part of the deal.

Zambrano has a full no-trade clause in his contract, but the thought of pitching for his friend and former Chicago White Sox skipper Ozzie Guillen may have played a role in negotiations.

Zambrano finished 9-7 in 24 starts with Chicago in 2011 with a 4.82 ERA.
