Clovis Library Shooting Victims Recovering at Lubbock’s UMC

Tuesday evening, Clovis (New Mexico) Police Department officials issued an update in the aftermath of a deadly shooting that occurred on Monday (Aug. 28).

Two of the six people shot Monday afternoon at the Clovis Carver Public Library have been killed. They have been identified as 61 year-old Wanda Walter and 48 year-old Kristina “Krissie” Carter. Mrs. Walters worked as a circulation assistant at the library, and Mrs. Carter worked as a Youth Service Librarian.

The four remaining people who were wounded were all transported to University Medical Center in Lubbock for treatment. According to the Clovis Police Department, they are:

Jessica Thron, age 30 is a City of Clovis employee. Jessica is a Circulation Assistant at the Clovis Carver Library and is listed in serious condition and expected to recover.

Alexis Molina, age 20 is listed in serious condition and expected to recover.

Noah Molina, age 10 is listed in stable condition and expected to recover.

Howard Jones, age 53 is listed in stable condition and expected to recover.

The alleged shooter has been identified as 16 year-old Nathaniel Ray Jouett. Jouett will be charged as a juvenile for Murder in the first degree (2 counts), assault with intent to commit a violent felony (4 counts), aggravated battery with a deadly weapon (4 counts),  and one count of child abuse. A detention hearing will be held within 48 hours of the filing of this petition.

After the hearing is completed, prosecutors will seek to charge Jouett as an adult. A Grand Jury is scheduled to hear the case on September 8 and indictments could be handed down against Jouett at that time.
