It's no surprise, but Texas Tech Special Teams coordinator Joe Robinson has left the program.

He was on the second year of a two-year deal, which was not renewed. The special teams woes were well-documented for Texas Tech in the past two seasons, with the culmination this season. The team's field goal percentage was 47.6 percent, which ranks at 123rd in the nation.

The ever-gracious Kliff Kingsbury said of Robinson: "Felt like we needed to make a change, we appreciate what he did in the two years he was here."

The special teams will be run by the staff as a collective, with a yet-to-be-decided coach taking point. Before Robinson was the Special Teams Coordinator, the unit was run by receivers coach Darrin Chiaverini.

The Robinson void leaves the Red Raiders with two vacancies in their coaching staff, as the NCAA announced last spring that staffs could be expanded to 10 assistants (from the 9 assistant cap in 2017). The effective date for the staff expansion is January 9th, but the Red Raiders can replace Robinson at anytime.
