Coach Terrance Jamison Aims to Bring Success to Texas Tech D-Line
It’s been repeated often over the last decade that continuity in the defensive coaching staff would provide a more stable platform for the Texas Tech defense to grow from. For the first time since Ruffin McNeill, the top of the defensive pyramid has the same leader for the third straight year.
In fact, the only new defensive coach on staff is Terrance Jamison, who’s in charge of the defensive line.
Jamison comes to Lubbock from Florida Atlantic University, where he had plenty of success in Conference USA getting to the quarterback. It’s something he hopes translates to the Big 12.
Jamison knows that Texas Tech faces a steep climb toward success, but understands the most important thing is that the defense doesn’t beat themselves. “No bad penalties, create turnovers, tackling, doing our job,” he said in our interview. All those things sound simple, but there’s been a deficit in those areas at Texas Tech.
Coach Jamison knows he needs to put his guys in the best position to succeed. “The right pieces in the right place,” he said.
Leadership is important, and Coach Jamison pegs Taylor Nunez and Broderick Washington as two leaders along the offensive line. That’s a sentiment that Lonzell Gilmore repeated about Broderick Washington, which seems like he leads by example.
