Dallas Falls to Baltimore 37-30 in Romo’s Season Debut

The Dallas Cowboys took on the Baltimore Ravens last night in their second preseason game of the 2014 season.  Although the outcome of this game was not decided by the first team players, all eyes were still on them as Cowboy fans got their first glimpse of Tony Romo since having a disk surgically repaired over the off-season.  Now he did not do anything amazing on Saturday, but he did show signs that his back is no longer bothering him.

Romo (pictured on the left) would finish the game playing just 16 snaps, but on those snaps he was did just about everything asked of him as he led the Cowboys on two drives in the first half, completing 4-5 passes for 80 yards.  He escaped pressure on two separate occasions, showcasing the maneuverability he has become famous for and even threw down field, as he connected with Dez Bryant on a 31-yard touchdown strike.

“I thought he looked comfortable. I thought he looked like himself and moved around in the pocket,” said Cowboys coach Jason Garrett. “He made some good throws that looked like he saw the field well. He felt the pocket really well and looked comfortable moving the team.”

It wasn’t all great for Tony Romo though as he did have a all too familiar miscue early in the game.  He attempted to hand the ball off to running back DeMarco Murray, but they would botch the hand off, leading to an easy scoop-and-score for Raven’s linebacker Courtney Upshaw.  “We have to look at it. We have to find it on the tape,” Romo said during the second quarter.  “That’s stuff that can’t happen, obviously, but we will get that corrected.”

Dallas would go on to lose the game by a final score of 37-30 to drop them to 0-2 this preseason.  They will look to get all the kinks worked out in their next preseason game as it will probably be the last we see of the everyday players before the start of the season.  The Cowboys will take on the Miami Dolphins on August 23rd is their third preseason game.  Kickoff for that game is set for Saturday at 6pm from Sun Life Stadium in Miami and can be seen on CBS.
