Texas Tech freshman phenom Davis Martin has been named to his second Freshman All-American team. The latest honor comes from the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association.  Martin was one of only 3 starting pitchers to earn the honor.

He was previously honored by the Collegiate Baseball Newespaper.

He is one of 14 players in school history to garner Freshman All-America accolades, a list that includes teammate Steven Gingery.

Martin, a native of San Angelo, Texas, was joined on the first team by fellow starting pitchers Colton Eastman of Cal State Fullerton and Braden Webb of South Carolina. The Big 12 led all conferences with five players named to one of the two teams.

The right-hander enters the College World Series with a 9-1 record to go along with a 2.73 earned-run average. His nine wins currently rank tied for fourth nationally among freshmen.

In addition to National honors Martin tabbed All-Big 12 first team honors as well All-Freshmen Team accolades from the conference coaches. He was a unanimous selection to the Big 12 all-freshmen team.

Opponents are hitting just .239 overall against Martin, who began the year in the bullpen before transitioning to Tech’s primary Friday night starter prior to Big 12 play. He finished a perfect 6-0 overall with a 2.00 ERA against league foes.
