If you never had the chance to eat at The Pickle & The Pig, I am sorry. The food was unique and fantastic. The location was odd, yet delightful, like you were in on a secret. And the people were incredibly friendly.

The Pickle & The Pig was an endearing place to many people, as evidenced by the shock and sadness in the comments on the Facebook post announcing their closing:

The Pickle & The Pig was known primarily for their lunch time sandwiches, salads and soups that were gourmet yet accessible and very reasonably priced, especially considering they partnered with and donated a portion of their proceeds to the YWCA.

I was lucky enough to try their lunchtime fare when I worked downtown for a coworker's birthday. I had never heard of it and it was tucked away in a larger facility -- The Legacy Events Center. It felt like being let into a secret club. My food was incredible.

No word yet on what the proprietors and chef plan to do in the future, but if and when they decide to open up a new venture, I'll be one of the first to try it (and report on it, of course!). They have encouraged their fans to continue to support other downtown Lubbock eateries, like Flippers Tavern and La Diosa.
