An Unmanned Aircraft System (drones) workshop is being hosted by Texas Tech Monday, October 26, in Lubbock along with Texas A&M University and the Reese Technology Center.

The workshop will focus on drone applications in agribusiness and other endeavors throughout the region and features a panoply of experts including engineers, scientists, and even legal experts.

Drones had been in a legal limbo in the last year as the FAA reviewed how to classify and regulate the machines. However, the FAA announced in the fall of 2015 that all drones must be registered similarly to all other types of aircraft. The FAA continues to work on developing a registration system for drones.

More information on operational limits of drones is available on the FAA’s website.

Texas Tech’s UAS workshop begins at 9 a.m. Monday, October 26, at Tech’s Innovation Hub and Research Park – 3911 4th Street.
