Former Dallas Cowboy Tony Dorsett to Appear in Lubbock with Heisman Trophy [INTERVIEW]
NFL Hall of Famer Tony Dorsett will be appearing at Lubbock's McGavock Nissan on 66th and Milwaukee Friday, September 25 from 5 to 7 p.m.
Brent McGavock and Randy Christian with McGavock Nissan joined guest host Paul R. Beane Monday (Sept. 21) on KFYO's Chad Hasty Show. The journey to have Dorsett make an appearance in Lubbock began earlier this year, they said.
"We've been working on getting Tony to come to town for like six months or so," said Randy Christian.
Beginning Thursday, September 24 through Sunday, September 27, this year’s Heisman Trophy will also be on display at McGavock.
"We’'re honored to get the Heisman Trophy here," said Brent McGavock. "I know Nissan is one of the sponsors of the Heisman House, so they get the opportunity to select certain dealers that actually have the real Heisman for the this year to come to one of the stores and we’ve been honored to be able to have that."
Unlike the group's month-long work to bring Dorsett to Lubbock, the Heisman Trophy comparatively fell into their lap.
"We only found out about the Heisman coming about a month and a half ago," said Christian. "So it was just this really nice thing. I guess meant to be to have Tony come in the same week that we’re having the Heisman, and that he’s a Heisman Trophy winner, also."
