Dakota Allen, former Texas Tech linebacker, is now a future Red Raider.

Does that make sense?

Allen was dismissed from the football team before the 2016 season after being involved in a burglary.

The charges were dropped, but the dismissal from the football team stuck. Life after Texas Tech took Allen to East Mississippi Community College.

Most notable for its participation in the Netflix docudrama about the life of a college football student athlete, EMCC is also a premier Junior College that features mostly FBS talent that needs a second chance before returning to the D1 ranks. Hence the name, "Last Chance U."

Allen led the EMCC Lions with 117 tackles. I won't spoil how the season went for those of you anxiously anticipating the release of Season 2.

As a redshirt freshman in 2015, Allen had 87 tackles for the Red Raiders.

After receiving the scholarship offer sometime before December 9th, Allen confirmed the comeback on Twitter, saying: “Blessed for a second opportunity to play football again. #GunsUp."

Allen will join six other Juco signees in the 2017 Texas Tech recruiting class, including linebacker Tony Jones, a 6'2", 220-pound junior who recorded 101 tackles for Butler CC in 2016.

With the two JUCO additions and the young talent lead by Jordyn Brooks, the linebacking unit for Texas Tech is starting to look like a strength for the first time in a long time.

Allen is expected to officially sign on national signing day February 1st, 2017.
