Former Tech Football Player, Rodney Blackshear, Fired from Amarillo Vipers

Former Texas Tech Red Raider, Rodney Blackshear, has been fired from his position as head coach of the Amarillo Vipers of the Indoor Football League.

Blackshear’s Vipers were 0-8 on the season, with five games remaining, when he was let go yesterday.

According to the Indoor Football League, this season was Blackshear’s sixth as a head coach in various indoor football leagues.

Coach Blackshear’s previous experience includes Head Coach of the Abilene Rough Riders midway through the 2010 season. Prior to coaching in Abilene, Blackshear has spent time as the Head Coach for the South Georgia Wildcats, Lubbock Renegades, and Centex Barracudas.

When the Lubbock Renegades were in existence, they played in the AF2 at the City Bank Coliseum.

Rodney Blackshear played college football for Texas Tech and was a Graduate Assistant for the Red Raiders before playing six seasons in the Arena Football League.
