Former Texas Longhorns Coach Darrell Royal Dies at 88

Former University of Texas head football coach Darrell K Royal passed away Wednesday morning. He was 88.
The University of Texas confirmed Royal’s death. He was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease earlier this year.
Royal coached 23 seasons at Texas and had a record of 167-47-5. He never had a losing season during his tenure as the Longhorns head coach.
He was the marquee coach of the time and brought about a tradition of winning at Texas. He claimed 11 Southwest Conference titles, 10 Cotton Bowl victories and a pair of National Championships in 1963 and 1969.
