Former Texas Tech Coach Joins Nick Saban’s Alabama Staff
It's been floating around for a week or two but it is now official. Karl Scott is now the DBs coach at the defending National Champion University of Alabama under legendary coach Nick Saban.
In a release Nick Saban said of Karl Scott, "He is a bright, young football coach who boasts a lot of experience coaching the secondary. He does an excellent job in terms of teaching the players, and he is someone we believe will be a tremendous asset in recruiting. We welcome his wife Taron and their daughter Kina Bailey to Tuscaloosa."
The announcement comes less than a month after Karl Scott had accepted a job at the University of Louisiana.
While at Texas Tech the his secondary improved, especially in 2017 getting 14 interceptions and posting two All-Big 12 selections in Jah'Shawn Johnson and Justus Parker.
Karl Scott also put out a statement, "I have an incredible amount of appreciation for The University of Alabama and the program Coach Saban has built in Tuscaloosa," Scott continued “I am very thankful for the opportunity to be a part of this coaching staff because as a defensive coach, it doesn’t get any better than working for Coach Saban. I look forward to doing my part to help continue the success this program has enjoyed.”
Some people will fault Karl Scott for bailing on a job mere weeks after signing a contract but in my opinion Nick Saban is one of the few guys you should always accept the offer from. Scott will be able to learn from one of the greatest to ever do it and will be able to work with the best talent in the country. It's also an automatic resume booster in his career.
It's obvious Karl Scott wants to climb the ladder, and he skipped several rungs by landing a dream job at Alabama.
Congratulations and wishes of success for Coach Scott and thank you for lending credibility to the Texas Tech defensive system. If Nick Saban is basically poaching your coaching talent You know you're doing something right.
