Recently fired Texas Tech basketball coach Pat Knight was named one of eight finalists for the head coaching position at Lamar University. Knight is the only finalist who was a head coach on the Division I level last season.

Knight was named one of the finalists for the position yesterday and will compete against 7 other coaches. Joining Knight in the final8 are Lamar assistant Tic Price, Lamar State College coach Matt Cross, Houston Assistant Alvin Brooks, Jones County Junior College coach Don Skelton, Memphis assistant Glynn Cyprien, Central Oklahoma head coach Terry Evans and Oral Roberts assistant Chris Crutchfield.

Knight spent just over 3 seasons at Texas Tech as the head coach where he complied a 39–43 career record. He took over the head coaching position for the Red Raiders after his father, Bob Knight, resigned during the 07-08 season. Pat was also an assistant coach at Texas Tech for 6 previous seasons and was also an assistant at Indiana.

No word yet on who the front runner is for the Lamar coaching job. There have been interviews conducted for the job and Lamar athletic director Larry Tidwell mentioned that he still expects to name the coach by April 7th.
