Former Texas Tech Wide Receiver, Danny Amendola accepted a reduced salary to stay with the New England Patriots.

According to ESPN’s Field Yates, the 31 year-old was planning on making $6 million in 2017. However, he agreed to make significantly less.

Although this fairly young WR has now become a yankee, one thing is for sure: he didn’t lose his West Texas manners, taking a pay-cut to stay somewhere he loves.

The Texas Tech alum continues to make Texas Tech proud, leaving West Texas as one of the best slot receivers in Texas Tech history. He caught 204 passes for 2,246 yards and 15 touchdowns as a Red Raider.

While playing at Texas Tech, Amendola made numerous game-changing plays, just like he has for New England, making him probably the most clutch player for the Patriots during critical moments.

As Danny Amendola delivered clutch plays throughout his time at Tech just like he has throughout his career. He caught a tipped fourth-down pass to keep the Red Raiders going to eventually score an upset against Oklahoma in 2005. Amendola played a key role in the New England Patriots incredible win over the Atlanta Falcons in Super Bowl LI, showing that he is in fact a Fearless Champion. The former Texas Tech WR was the target on the Patriot’s successful 2-point conversion that tied the game 28-28 with under a minute play, helping the Patriots win a historical comeback Super Bowl win.

Despite his remarkable performance at Texas Tech and coming in clutch for the Patriots, this season he missed four games and caught only 23 passes, which makes sense why the Patriots were unwilling to pay that much for a receiver whose constant injuries have made him a wild card.

Now, Amendola will reportedly make slightly more than the $1.6 million he made in 2016. But one thing is for sure: Amendola has been one of Tom Brady’s dependable targets and has yet to let us down in Raiderland, showing his commitment and generosity in the NFL.

Keep making us proud, Danny!
