Former Texas Tech Pitcher Nathan Karns Makes His MLB Debut

A former Red Raider made his MLB debut on Tuesday night.  Pitcher Nathan Karns, who pitched for Texas Tech in 2008-2009, made his first start for the Washington Nationals as they took on the Baltimore Orioles.

He would go 4.1 innings allowing three runs on five hits with three strikeouts.  Karns (Pictured on the right) left the game in the fifth inning with the Nationals leading 7-3.  They would go on to win the game with a final score of 9-3.  Karns is the first Red Raider to make his MLB debut as a starter and lead his team to a win since Josh Tomlin who pitched seven innings during his debut for the Cleveland Indians in 2010.

Nathan Karns was drafted in the 2009 MLB draft in the 12th round by the Nationals, which was the same year that former Red Raider and Lubbock stand out A.J. Ramos was drafted.
