The Texas Tech Football team has a new defensive line coach after hiring Fred Tate to fill the position.

Tate replaces Terry Price who left the Red Raiders to return to his alma mater, Texas A&M. Tate’s familiar with new defensive coordinator Art Kaufman as the two were on staff together at Southern Miss.

“We are happy to welcome Fred Tate to our football family," said head coach Tommy Tuberville. "Fred is an excellent coach and Art Kaufman really spoke high of him from their time together at Southern Miss. He will bring a lot of experience to our defensive unit and we are thrilled to have him."

Tate has spent the past two seasons as the safeties coach at Marshall, and prior to his time with the Thundering Herd he spent time as the defensive line coach at both Tennessee-Chattanooga and Southern Miss.
