The Rawls Course at Texas Tech has been honored by the publication Golf Digest as the 12th-best venue in the state of Texas and the second highest course open to the general public on the list and only 5 of the 30 courses on the list are open to the general public.

From the Texas Tech press release on the history of the Rawls Course,

"Developed by architect Tom Doak, The Rawls Course has been honored by multiple golf publications as one of the country’s top collegiate courses since its inception. Golfweek Magazine named the facility as the fourth-best campus course during its September 2010 edition, while Turfnet Magazine and Golf Magazine have both previously included the course among its top-five college courses.

The course is named after Texas Tech alumnus Jerry S. Rawls, who generously donated the majority of the funding needed to make the facility one of the top courses in the nation. Rawls is also the namesake for Texas Tech’s Rawls College of Business."
