A High Wind Warning is in effect until 7pm tonight (March 24) for Lubbock and Hockley counties, plus the northern South Plains and the vast majority of the Texas Panhandle. 

Sustained winds will be out of the north, northwest from 40 to 45 mph and gusts will be up to 60 mph across the South Plains. In the western Texas Panhandle gusts could reach 70 mph. Blowing dust will also be possible this afternoon across the South Plains and Panhandle.

Meanwhile in the southern and eastern South Plains, a Wind Advisory continues until 7pm. In the cities of Childress, Ralls, Post, Tahoka and Brownfield sustained winds will be between 25 to 35 mph with gusts up to 50.

Today’s high winds could pose problems for high-profile vehicles, especially on I-27. Also, some sporting events are being postponed or cancelled due to the high winds.  Lubbock ISD announced that Friday's high school baseball and softball games are being moved to tomorrow (March 25).
