Friday, the Houston Astros placed right-handed pitcher Kyle Weiland on the 15-day disabled list retroactively to April 25th relating to an injury on his throwing shoulder. Weiland has struggled on the young season in his three starts going 0-3 with an ERA at 6.62.

Infielder Marwin Gonzalez was placed on paternity leave to be with his wife as she prepares to give birth to their child, due to Gonzales going on leave, infielder Brian Bixler and left-handed pitcher Fernando Abad were recalled from Triple-A Oklahoma City to fill the roster spots.

The switch-hitting Gonzalez was hitting .231 with one RBI in 16 games. Gonzalez is expected to return to the Astros by the time they open a home stand Monday against the New York Mets.

Houston has struggled this season at 7-12 on the season and in 5th place in the National League Central Division.
