Today, the Houston Astros unveiled their 50th Anniversary Logo for next season.

The logo uses colors and logos from the Astros logos and uniform combinations over the past 50 years.  The 'Astros' script at the top of the logo was used during the 1960s and '70s.  The rainbow colors in the background were used on Astros jerseys in some form or fashion from 1975-1993.  The shooting star was used on Astros jerseys from 1965-1974.  The gold border represents the Astros logo and uniforms from 1994-1999. The brick (red) colored open star logo represents the current Astros logo  and finally the colors of orange and navy blue were the colors used by the Colt .45s from 1962-1964.

The Astros' Alyson Footer also reported that home games on Friday in 2012 will feature different throwback uniforms:

During Friday home games in 2012, the Astros will wear a throw-back jersey that represents a certain era in the Houston franchise. Each month will highlight a new jersey from a different era. ‘Flashback Fridays’ will also include special ticket pricing, as well as pregame ceremonies, in-game entertainment and specially-themed Friday Night Fireworks, presented by Marathon Oil Corporation.

The Astros Golden Anniversary in the National League might also be their last in the Senior Circuit.  The Astros have been targeted for a move to the American League as part of realignment and expansion of the playoffs.
