Houston Falls 4-1 to Seattle on Monday

The Houston Astros began a three game mid-week series against the Seattle Mariners on Monday as they were looking to build off of their series win over the Oakland Athletics.  Houston would send Brad Peacock to the mound opposite Seattle's starter Felix Hernandez.  Peacock threw five scoreless innings and gave up four hits and two walks while striking out six batters. Hernandez threw six scoreless frames for the Mariners, allowing five hits and four walks while striking out eight batters.

"I threw a lot of pitches, but those guys over there had some good ABs and fouled some pitches off and ran my pitch count up," Peacock said. "I felt good the whole game and just tried to battle out there."

Offensively, Houston would struggle again as they managed just seven hits with Robbie Grossman accounting for three of them.  When guys did get on base, the Astros could not get them home as they were 0 for 10 with runners in scoring position along with leaving 11 runners stranded.

"The walks caught up to us tonight, but we battled and we battled and we battled," Houston's interim manager Tom Lawless said.  "Facing Hernandez out there, he's a tough cookie to crack.  To get him out of the game in the sixth inning, it's a big credit.  It's a 1-1 ballgame going back at the end.  Like I said before, if we can be in those ballgames late in the ballgame, it gives us a chance to win, and that's what we had tonight."

Houston and Seattle will continue their mid-week series today with first pitch for this game set for 9:10pm with the pregame starting at 8:45pm and you can hear all the action right here on Sports Radio 1340 the FAN.
