Current TNT TV analyst Kevin McHale has confirmed that he will be the new head coach for the Houston Rockets.

McHale, the former Minnesota Timberwolves general manager, had been the teams interim head coach twice going 39 – 55 during those times for the Timberwolves.

McHale will be signing a 3 year contract with an option for a 4th year.

McHale's first big decision will be on whether or not the resign All-Star center Yao Ming whose contract expires this summer. Yao Ming has been limited by injuries and only played in 5 games since the 2008-2009 season.

McHale will be replacing Rick Adelman who was 164 – 106 during his 4 years there. The Rockets have missed the play offs for the last 2 years.

The official announcement is expected to be made this Friday.
