Houston Snaps Their Losing Streak with a 11-7 Win Over Chicago

The Houston Astros were able to snap the three game losing skid they were on as they also were able to avoid the sweep at the hands of the Chicago White Sox with their 11-7 win on Sunday.  “Even when we made some errors and did not make plays that put our pitchers in more distress, the offense responded each and every time and was able to continue to put runs on the board,” manager Bo Porter said.  “We’ve been faced with adversity throughout the course of the year and one thing I can say about these guys is they’re going to continue to fight.”

Offensively, Houston finally came alive after scoring three or less runs in the previous five games.  They erupted for 11 runs on 17 hits with all of Houston’s batters able to get at least one hit.  Six batters able to get multiple hits with Jose Altuve and Micheal Dominguez hitting home runs in the win.

Jarred Cosart got the start for Houston but was only able to last five innings while giving up three runs on seven hits and striking out four as he was awarded the no decision.  ”I was hoping to go six or seven even after the first; just come out and have some quick innings,” Cosart said. “But it’s baseball. I got a lot of ground balls. Obviously I didn’t get the results and didn’t go as long as I wanted to, but I thought I made some good adjustments to start the second half that I can only build off of and get better.”

Houston, who is now 41-58 on the year, will now start a three game mid-week series against the AL West leading Oakland Athletics in California.  First pitch for the start of this series is set for tomorrow night at 9:05pm from O.co Coliseum in Oakland.  The pregame will begin at 8:45pm and you can hear all the action right here on Sports Radio 1340 the FAN.
