Houston Takes Series Over Seattle With Wednesday’s 5-2 Win

The Houston Astros took their series against the Seattle Mariners this week as they took the deciding game on Wednesday by a score of 5-2.  Houston sent Nick Tropeano to the mound as he worked through over five innings allowing two runs on four hits while walking two and striking out five.  He's the first Astros starter to win his Major League debut since Jarred Cosart last July.  Astros starters are now 6-0 with a 1.95 ERA in the team's past 10 games. Relievers Darin Downs (two innings), Jose Veras and Tony Sipp held the Mariners to one hit over the final four frames, with Sipp getting the save.

Offensively, Jose Altuve continued to hit well for Houston as he notched his 199th and 200th hit in the win on Wednesday.  "We win this game and get 200 hits and the momentum we're having right now, it's pretty special for me," Altuve said.  "The team is playing great.  I couldn't ask for more.  We're going outside, playing hard, we're winning, and I think that makes me feel really good."  Houston's All-Star second baseman is just ten hits shy of Craig Biggio's club record of 210, set in 1998, and will have a good chance of breaking it with 16 games remaining.  Altuve leads the Majors in hits, batting average (.336), multi-hit games and three-hit games.  He also stole his 52nd base, which leads the AL.

Houston will have today off as they prepare for the hottest team in baseball in the division leading Los Angeles Angels.  First pitch for this game is set for Friday at 9:05pm from Angels Stadium of Anaheim.
