Houston Texans DE J.J. Watt, AFC Defensive Player of the Month
Houston Texans defensive end J.J. Watt has picked up another award during his stellar 2012 season, as the second-year pro was named the AFC Defensive Player of the Month for December, marking the second time he’s won the award this season.
Watt led the NFL in sacks (six) and forced fumbles (four) during December. The second-year pro also tallied 27 tackles and three passes defensed.
He had a career-high 10 tackles and three sacks against AFC-South rival Indianapolis in Week 15, and then in the regular-season finale against the Colts he recorded his 16th pass defensed on the season to set an NFL record for defensive lineman.
Watt is the first Texans player to win multiple player of the month honors in the same season. He claimed the award for September after recording 6.5 sacks and helping the Texans to a 4-0 record.
