Houston Texans defensive end J.J. Watt left practice Thursday morning with an elbow injury.

The extent of the injury has not been disclosed, but head coach Gary Kubiak said the team will continue to watch and evaluate Watt, but that he should be ready by Week 1.

“J.J.’s got elbow issue that we’ve obviously got to evaluate here at lunch time and see what happens,” Kubiak said. “I’m trying to smile. I’m concerned until we go find out what’s going on. But you know, I don’t want to say nothing. It’s his elbow, we’re gonna take a look at it. Hopefully, everything will be OK.”

Watt is the third big name to go down during Texans practice over the last week joining wide receiver Andre Johnson (groin) and left tackle Duane Brown (ankle).

Rookie defensive end Jared Crick, a fourth-round pick out of Nebraska, is behind Watt on the depth chart and will likely get his reps throughout the preseason.
