For his dominating outing against the Jacksonville Jaguars Sunday, Houston Texans defensive end J.J. Watt has been named the AFC Defensive Player of the Week.

Watt joined Miami running back Reggie Bush and Cincinnati returner Adam “Pacman” Jones, who were named the offensive and special teams players of the week.

Watt had a team-high five tackles, 1.5 sacks, three quarterback hits, two passes defensed, two tackles for loss and one fumble recovery in the Texans’ 27-7 win over the Jags.

Houston limited Jacksonville to just 117 yards of total offense, a new team record.

“He’s exceptional,” Texans coach Gary Kubiak said of Watt. “He’s factoring in the game just incredible, whether it’s a tipped ball, getting a turnover, a sack. He’s such a big-play guy… He’s had two as good of outings as you could possibly have.”

So far this season Watt has three sacks, which ties him with four other players for second in the league.

It was the first weekly NFL award of Watt’s young career, and makes him the first Texans to be named the AFC’s Defensive Player of the Week since safety, at the time cornerback, Glover Quin in Week 12 of the 2010 season.

The last Texans defensive lineman to win the award was Mario Williams in 2007.
