Texas Tech University officially acknowledged the hiring of Tubby Smith for the Red Raider Basketball program on Monday night. Texas Tech spokesperson Blayne Beal refuted the Associated Press story yesterday reporting that Tech and Smith had reached an agreement on the contract.

A 2 p.m. press conference will be held today at the City Bank Room in the United Spirit Arena this afternoon to introduce Smith. 1340 The Fan will bring you coverage of the Tubby Smith introduction starting minutes before 2 p.m.

Smith was fired from Minnesota on March 25th after losing to Florida in the Round of 32 of the NCAA Tournament. Smith also won a national title at Kentucky and took Georgia and Tulsa to Sweet 16’s in the NCAA Tournament.
