In a first quarter dominated by Texas Tech, there was no shortage of explosive plays that helped the Red Raiders to a 24-14 lead after one.

Already with a litany of dynamic plays in both the running and passing games, the Red Raiders defense got in on the reindeer games.

On the Cowboys' second possession, pokes quarterback Mason Rudolph threw an errant pass in the middle of the field that was intercepted by Tech linebacker Dakota Allen, stealing an extra possession for the Red Raiders offense. The interception led to three points and Texas Tech had officially announced their presence in this conference showdown.

Naturally, after explosive plays on offense and an early turnover created by the defense, it was time for the Texas Tech Special Teams to make a gigantic play in the ballgame.

After Oklahoma State's first touchdown cut Texas Tech's lead to 17-7, Red Raiders kick return specialist Jakeem Grant salvaged the game's momentum and ignited the crowd with a dazzling 100-yard kickoff return.

Grant's return touchdown put the Red Raiders in front 24-7 before Oklahoma State closed out the first quarter with a touchdown drive of their own, reducing the deficit to 24-14 after one frame.
