The man police say was speaking with a slur and admitted to drinking alcohol before he got behind the wheel and crashed into a Lubbock motorcyclist, killing him, refused to perform a field sobriety test or provide a sample of his blood for testing.

Days after 49-year-old James Albert Pritchard hit 50-year-old Sammy Castaneda with his truck at the 50th Street and Indiana Avenue intersection, a search warrant reveals he had been asked to perform a counting exercise as a test of his sobriety.

"I asked J. Pritchard to count backwards from the number '47' and stop at the number '32.' J. Pritchard refused to perform this test," the search warrant, which was obtained by EverythingLubbock.com, stated.

Pritchard, who was taken to University Medical Center for minor injuries after the crash, told a Lubbock police officer that he had consumed alcohol before he drove. The search warrant revealed that two cans of beer were found in his vehicle's cab.

Authorities also asked Pritchard to provide a blood sample to discern his blood-alcohol level. But Pritchard refused to comply.

"Pritchard advised there are two very good lawyers in this town and they advised not to give his blood," the warrant said.

A search warrant was quickly drafted and signed by State District Judge Bob Darnell, the site reported, but those results weren't included.

Pritchard was booked into the Lubbock County Detention Center and charged with manslaughter. His bond was set at $50,000.
