Dallas Cowboys owner and general manager Jerry Jones won’t rule starting nose tackle Jay Ratliff for the team’s season opener against the New York Giants on Sept. 5.

Ratliff suffered a high ankle sprain in the Cowboys 20-19 preseason win over the St. Louis Rams Saturday night.  After the game Ratliff was seen leaving the locker room on crutches.

Jason Garrett said Monday they are hopeful Ratliff can get back to practice this weekend.

“We just have to evaluate him day-to-day,” Garrett said. “He’s a tough guy like everybody knows and he’s made progress since the game.”

The Cowboys play their final preseason game Wednesday night.
