Jordan Tolbert, Texas Tech's phenom of a freshman has been named the Phillips 66 Big 12 Rookie Of The Week. Tolbert has been playing lights out all season averaging 19.0 points and 4.0 rebounds during the week he won the award. He was also 8-of-13 from the line, adding two assists, two blocks and three steals. Tolbert played his best game against Cal State Bakersfield scoring a season-tying high of 27 points. Tolbert leads all Big 12 freshman in scoring with 15.4 points per game and field goal percentage of 652 while ranking second in rebounding with 6.1 per game. The scoring mark is fifth in the league overall, while his shooting percentage places him second.

To most Tech fans Tolbert came out of nowhere, becoming the first Red Raider to win a Big 12 honor since Mike Singletary won Big 12 Player of the Week last year. He is also the first Red Raider to win freshman of the week since David Tairu won back in 2009.

Hopefully he can continue his lights out play against stiffer competition when Big 12 play kicks off January 4th against Oklahoma State.
