Happening Saturday night (June 20) is a shining, can't-miss show in the western sky.

A bright and beautiful conjunction of the crescent moon and planets Venus and Jupiter will show itself just after sunset (about 9 p.m. CDT).

The glow of the fading twilight will still be present at the same time you can see the moon and the other two planets forming a triangle very near each other in the sky. The show will be easily visible with the naked eye, and will last for about 90-120 minutes before they set on the western horizon.

This is a must-see event, weather permitting of course. If the clouds interfere, the three will still be easily visible the next couple of nights, just not quite as close together.

Venus will show itself almost immediately after sunset, and Jupiter will be the smaller object appearing soon thereafter.

Be sure to keep this in mind while you are viewing: Though the planets will appear very close together in the sky, Venus and Jupiter are (very roughly) 415 million miles apart, and that Jupiter is approximately 390 million miles from Earth.

Do something different this weekend and pry your family away from the television and take them outside for a beautiful show in the sky.
