Texas Tech head football coach Kliff Kingsbury announced on Thursday, December 17th, that one player has been suspended and three players have elected to transfer from the program.

Junior wide receiver Devin Lauderdale has been suspended indefinitely due to a failure to uphold Texas Tech Athletic Department Student-Athlete Expectations. Lauderdale will have the opportunity to return next season. Lauderdale was second on the team in both receptions and receiving yards while catching four touchdown passes.

Lauderdale is a curious case of lost potential. His career isn't done yet, and he did have a decent year this year, but he could be much better. His skill set is incredible. The speed and elusiveness he possesses creates an above average ability as a play maker. It seems like his biggest hurdle will be himself and the focus he lacks at times.

Lauderdale will be suspended through the spring and will have an opportunity to rejoin the team next fall.

Three players will be transferring from the program including sophomore defensive lineman Mike Mitchell, sophomore defensive back Jalen Barnes and sophomore defensive back Derrick Dixon.

Mike Mitchell was a much heralded transfer from Ohio State that had to sit out in 2014 and struggled to get playing time in 2015. Coming in as a line backer his skill set was a closer match to this coaching staffs idea of a defensive lineman. Relegated to mostly special teams Mitchell will look elsewhere for a larger role.

Texas Tech (7-5) will face No. 20 LSU (8-3) in the AdvoCare V100 Texas Bowl on Tuesday, Dec. 29 at NRG Stadium in Houston. Kickoff is at 8:10 p.m. CT for a nationally televised broadcast on ESPN.
