Texas Tech Head Coach Kliff Kingsbury addressed the media in this week's press conference, covering Pete Robertson's absence, the SHSU game and Saturday's match against UTEP.

When asked about senior standout Pete Robertson, Kingsbury said simply: "He is day to day...it's still being evaluated, that is how its gonna remain. Let's put it that way and leave it at that."

This is a typical answer from the third year head coach. There is no fault in the way he handles those types of questions, but it is frustrating to have no clue why the best player on a rough-looking defense is not playing.

The one thing Kingsbury was certain about was that Patrick Mahomes will be the starter over Davis Webb for the second week vs UTEP. After Mahomes was selected as the offensive player of the week in the Big 12, there was little doubt.

"[Webb's] disappointed as a competitor, you can see that," Kingsbury said about the quarterback battle. adding: "He's handled it like a complete professional and that's not easy to do at that age. Him knowing how good he can be, how good he is. Couldn't be more proud of how he handled the situation."

During the press conference, Kingsbury was asked if he was disappointed in the defense during.

"I knew going in we didn't know what we had exactly, but I wouldn't say disappointed. First game things happen. Usually make your biggest improvement from week one to week two," he said.

The Micah Awe injury was called a shoulder injury of some sort. Not a lot of elaboration. Classic Kingsbury.

Giles and Hinton were also mentioned by Kingsbury as standout freshmen.
