After a 2-3 stretch in the last five games for Texas Tech football, Kliff Kingsbury thinks there is a simple solution to get the tide turned back into a positive direction.

"[We] just need to start faster," he said. "You know, there's no recipe for that, just got to do it as a team and work on it as practice and try to get better at it."

A faster start changes the whole dynamic of the game, according to Kingsbury. "The last couple we just started slow, and against a team like we played last week, if you do that, you're behind 21-3 and then it's tough to catch up."

Quarterback Patrick Mahomes also had another less-than-incredible outing. Kingsbury said it had more to do with the OU defense than Mahomes' inefficiency.

"They just made good plays. All four of the reads, he was going to the right place with the football," Kingsbury said, "That's one of the things in football that happens, and you've got to try and overcome that."

"I had no issue with the reads," Kingsbury continued on Mahomes. "It just went the other way this time. Even balls that got tipped, they had guys around it and slid in and made plays. I think it's just one of those deals that happens in football, and it didn't go to our way."

The defense has not been good lately. But it has been better at getting turnovers.

Kingsbury expounded on the turnovers: "I hope that they're getting more comfortable in the system. I think when they truly understand what Coach Gibbs is getting at against different formations and different offenses, then more and more turnovers will come, but it was good to see them get the ball out a couple times."

The OSU Cowboys, who the Red Raiders play Saturday, are 7-0. Kliff had only positives to say about them.

"Really good wide receiving group. They mix in Walsh, who's an outstanding athlete to run down there on the right area, and good running backs." Kingsbury said. "They have a good scheme. They mix it up. They've been good on offense for a lot of years and do a great job of keeping you off balance."

Will the home field advantage be a factor for Texas Tech as it often is?

"Our team loves to play at home, only two home games left, being Halloween, being that black out, having a costume contest, I think it'll be an awesome atmosphere." Kingsbury said about coming home after two weeks on the road. "I think it'll be very raucous, and I know our guys will be fired up."

Kingsbury certainly doesn't think his team will be going belly-up as the season winds down and is proud of what they've accomplished so far.

"I think when you look at it, you're 5-3 and you've lost to probably three of the six top teams in the country, and that goes with the territory." he said, adding: "A lot of prognosticators, looking at our schedule, wouldn't have even thought we'd be 5-3 at this point. I've been proud of our team, how resilient they've been, and I expect these last four for us to play our best football.

The only news on the injury report is that Baylen Brown won't have to have surgery on the injured knee and that he is day to day.
