Lubbock-Cooper Pirates quarterback Kolton Ehlers has been recognized for leading his Pirate team to a win over #1 ranked Stephenville last week.  Today, Ehlers was named the Class 5A Built Ford Tough Player of the Week.

In the 50-39 win over Stephenville, Ehlers went 20/29 passing for 253 yards and three touchdowns. He also ran the ball 26 times for 154 yards and four touchdowns.

Cooper head coach Max Kattwinkle said, “I think this is just the beginning for Kolton. Obviously he needs to learn to be more consistent and to finish games, but I’m not surprised at how he’s done.

"It’s helpful that he’s played so many positions (running back and wide receiver in previous seasons). He just knows where everyone needs to be. He’s just the kind of guy you need in your locker room, the consummate team player. He always wanted to play quarterback but wherever we needed him, he went out and did the job. As a result, everyone follows him. He’s simply a tremendous leader.”

Tomorrow night, Cooper hosts Monahans at Pirate Stadium at 7:30p.  You can listen to the game on 98.1 KOOL FM and 98KOOL.com with the pregame show beginning at 7p.
